The View from the Fish Bowl

Dear Red Foxes🦊,
B027 had a great week full of excitement, learning new things, and sharing new experiences with all of our classmates! Below, we will inform you about our week and the fun and exciting things we did! Hope you enjoy it! MONDAY It was a normal day. We came to school at 7:00. We had Second Step, Math, Science and P.E in the first half of the day. Later in the day, we had lunch and recess, had afternoon activities and went home. In Second Step, we are learning how to avoid assumptions, since it can hurt others' feelings. In Math, we had another day full of dividing whole numbers and fractions, and in science, we are observing how things melt and dissolve. We started a new unit of tumbling in P.E. Tumbling is basic gymnastics for beginners, and recess and lunch followed after that. Finally, in ELA, we’ve kicked off our new independent research project, Natural Disasters, and voted on March Madness. We each get our own natural disaster to work on, and our job is to type up an essay, containing all of the information that we researched. March madness (the battle of the books) is a special activity the Red Foxes are doing for March. Everyone chooses a book secretly to work on, and there is a series of activities that you have to complete to proceed further in the competition. The class votes each of their top 3 choices. That was the end of Monday. TUESDAY We stayed home from school, but we had a lot of fun! The weather was nice outside, so many played and enjoyed the nice weather. WEDNESDAY It was very similar to Monday. We came to school at 7:00. We had Math, Social Studies and P.E in the first half of the day. Later in the day, we had lunch and recess, had afternoon activities and went home. In P.E we are working on our unit of tumbling which is a mix of gymnastics yoga and rolling. In Social studies we are learning about the 13 colonies. So far, we have learned about the New England and Middle colonies. We are continuing to work on multiplying and dividing fractions in math. THURSDAY Thursday was a whole lot different from all the other days! First in the morning instead of having Math and Science, we had a visitor from the Museum of Science in Boston. They sent a representative to talk to us about liquid nitrogen and the 3 states of matter(solid, liquid, and gas), showed us how the molecules in all 3 states of matter looked, and explained how we could turn a solid to a liquid, liquid to gas, and in reverse. She even lit a little piece of paper on fire using water. After that, our special was Art. In art we are working on henna hands, which is a type of tattoo with pretty patterns that originates in Asia. After art we went to recess which was fun and we ate lunch. In the afternoon we continue work on our natural disasters project, and March Madness. FRIDAY On the last day of our exciting week, we had Math, Science, and Library. This week, we hosted a Team Meeting. Teem Meeting is where all of the Red Foxes gather up in one home room every Friday. In this case, we held Team Meeting in our home room. We learned about how Friday the 13 was coming up, and learned about Superstitions. We started a new unit in Math about line plots, and in science, we investigated the differences between something melting or dissolving, and how the properties of a solid, liquid, or gas, might change during a chemical reaction. In Library, our teachers got together with the Librarians, so we could also use some time during Library to do our research. The Librarians helped us find good resources, websites, and databases that we could use to gather up information for our essays. They also told us some keywords we could type in to narrow down our searches to find exactly what we needed to answer the question. That was B027’s week!
